W1T1: Who Am I?
As someone who has written countless applications for leadership roles and resumes, this is the question to which I often have the perfectly crafted answer to. From my strengths, weaknesses to my goals and how I plan to achieve them - there is a strict formula I always follow to answer the question of who I am in order to get the role. However, in a time like this when I am forced to face who I truly am as a person, I find myself stumped.
Formalities aside, I’ll just go with the plain and simple first. I’m Alexandria, or most people

know me as Alex. I’m turning twenty this year and gosh, two decades on this planet and yet I still have no idea who I am. I’d like to think of myself as a jack of all trades and master of some for I have dabbled in most creative fields and found myself truly at home when I am allowed to create. With that said, my creative interests include graphic design, photography (with food and travel being my favourite subject), videography and a little bit of writing.
Speaking of food as my favourite subject, if you were to ask any of my friends what I was most passionate about, most of them would respond with food. To put it simply, I am a foodie. For most people, eating is simply a part of their life that they need to fulfill in order to survive but I believe that food is meant to be enjoyed. I love taking photographs of food as well as cooking and enjoying them. Food has always been an important centerpiece in my life as it is the one thing that brings me and my family close together. When the pandemic began, I began learning how to cook some of my favourite foods that were much more difficult to access because of the movement restrictions. That experience simply grew my love and appreciation for food.
If there is one thing I would describe myself with, I would say it’s water. Water is fluid, and flows to fit the container it's in and I think it’s quite applicable to who I am as a person. As someone who is flexible and adapts to different environments and people, I find myself behaving as if water would - taking on different roles and personas to fit the circle of people. While I show my true self to many, most often I am playing the role of a friend, a leader or a sister and eventually, after two decades, those roles have become part of who I am. By nature, I’m a nurturing and caring person - the epitome of a Hufflepuff if you’re familiar with Harry Potter.
Goal and aspiration wise, I’ve always had different dreams growing up - maybe that’s what led to having different hobbies. However, there was an event that changed my life and I will always remember it as a concert that I would never forget. In 2018, I attended a K-pop concert in the MINES Convention Center and it was by the group SEVENTEEN. I began following the group late 2016 and as of today, I’ve attended four of their concerts. It was their second tour in Malaysia and I was finishing up my foundation in college. Towards the middle of their performance, I found myself absolutely awe struck at the way they literally shone on stage. It was at that moment when I realised that I wanted to be a director of some sorts - to gather bright talents and give them a platform to showcase themselves - hence why I decided to pursue a degree in Broadcasting - the closest to filmmaking. I have not regretted that decision ever since and it has become my motivation in life - with me living by this quote, “Aspire to Inspire”.
Wrapping up, I still believe that I do not truly know myself yet. There are so many more aspects of myself that I’m slowly learning about and everyday is a brand new opportunity for it.
